About me
The Journey
I first learned how to code back in high school as they offered a beginner class that taught C++. Upon entering UC Santa Cruz, I decided to pursue a computer science degree and took introductory coding classes in Java and C while also learning more about data structures & algorithms. As I started my 3rd year, I transferred to UC Davis and learned more about abstract topics and theories in computer science. At the time, it was unclear what my passion was between coding and business. I decided to do a 180° pivot in my 4th year and graduated as a Managerial Economics major with a Computer Science minor.
After graduating, I worked at Guckenheimer as an Accounts Receivable Clerk that entered payments into the system and collected money on past due balances. Meanwhile, I was also taking accounting classes online at a community college. I was able to leverage my technical and excel skills to land a position at Wish as a Revenue Accountant. It was a really fun experience working at a start-up alongside with many brilliant people, because I learned a lot in developing my technical and communication skills. My team heavily relied on the data analysts and software engineers to provide us the data we needed. I would often hear words like "SQL", "Mongo", "TreasureData", "Backfill", "Table" and that only made me more curious and ignited my passion to learn coding again.
During my final months at Wish, I worked on a project to automate the daily revenue journal entries in Netsuite. Working alongside with a software engineer, we went back and forth in testing and making sure everything worked perfectly. In order to access this tool, I remember being asked to type in "npm install" and "npm start" and going to "localhost:3000" on my browser with no understanding why. Working on the implemention of the automation tool from beginning to end became the final straw for me to decide to switch careers, because I was very proud of our completed product.
It took a lot of courage, but thanks to the support from my family and friends, I entered Hack Reactor to become a software engineer. During the immersive program, I learned a new set of programming skills and created applications using Javascript, React, NodeJS, ExpressJS, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL. With the ability to learn and work autonomously, I plan to challenge myself and further enhance my skillsets.
Personal Interests
Besides coding, I really enjoy traveling, trying out new restaurants, eating good food, listening to music, watching anime and playing video games.
